The vision of the Commissioner General of Police, Cde, Dr Augustine Chihuri of seeing the Zimbabwe Republic Police High School having its own chapel has been realised following the ground breaking ceremony held recently where he was the guest of honour.During the same occasion, Cde, Dr Chihuri also performed the same ritual on the Advanced Level Science Laboratory. The two construction projects will run concurrently.
The vision was mooted way back in September 1997 at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of ZRP High School, where Cde, Dr Chihuri declared that the work of constructing the school will not be complete until a chapel was constructed.Back then, he had mandated the late School Board Chairperson, Dr Paul Tangi Mhova Mkondo to ensure that the construction of the chapel remained an active agenda on board meetings.
The attainment of the Commissioner General of Police’s vision is now work-in-progress as ZRP High School Board of Governors and the school’s partners have managed to acquire materials to kick-start the construction project.
Addressing guests and students at the ground breaking ceremony, Cde, Dr Chihuri said the need for construction of the chapel was an urgent matter. He said in-line with the school motto “Making future leaders,” the construction of the school chapel will add a spiritual dimension and allow the school to develop complete future leaders.
“I was aware that as we were doing these developmental activities (construction of the school), the promptings of God’s word with respect to the construction of the chapel were getting urgent.
“I am convinced and convicted that the construction of the chapel which is the place of worship will see the extraordinary outpouring of the grace of God and favour upon the school.
“I am exceedingly pleased that the Board of Governors, the parents through the School Development Committee (SDC), the headmaster, teachers and corporate stakeholders in particular Metbank, have come together to finally see the construction of the school chapel.”
Cde, Dr Chihuri expressed his commitment to ensure that the construction of the chapel will be done expeditiously.
“It is our commitment to ensure that the construction of the chapel will be done in a meticulous manner with thorough attention to detail and devoted workmanship consistent with the stature befitting a house of worship.”
Turning to the construction of the laboratory, Cde, Dr Chihuri said the construction of the laboratory resonates well with the national thrust, which put emphasis on science subjects.
“I am sure we are all aware that the current national thrust has an emphasis on science subjects in order to drive the expectations of the economic turnaround in line with the national economic blueprint, ZIMASSET.
“I am aware that most of our students who wanted to do science subjects at Advanced Level were greatly disadvantaged and had to seek places elsewhere to study the science subjects”
“Aptitude and proficiency in these critical subjects will ensure that the ZRP High School maintains its prime position in academic exploits which resonate with the dynamism of national aspirations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Cde, Dr Chihuri commissioned the state-of-art library at the school, which has the capacity of accommodating 400 students at a time.
