In order to redress the legacy of the colonial era where police stations were located very far away from the majority of people they were supposed to serve, bases, posts, and satellite stations are being constructed closer to the people.

One of the important objectives of this exercise is to reduce response time for calls of assistance from the community to a barest minimal.

The programme has brought considerable satisfaction to most communities especially in the rural areas and some have offered to construct the facilities themselves.
