The Zimbabwe Republic Police recently woke up to sad news, where two police officers – Sergeants Robert Shumba (39) and Vengai Mazhara (35) all from Chipinge Police station were killed in a shooting incident, which occurred at Plot number 34, Naffaerton, Chipinge as they tried to arrest a suspected poacher.

The shooting incident also claimed the life of a civilian, Chaita Simango (22) while Constable Josphat Madenga who was in the company of the two survived. The trio were on a mission to investigate information on poachers who had wreaked havoc at Nafferton Farm located 15km to the West of Chipinge Town. The farm was repossessed by the Chipinge Urban Council and earmarked for expansion.

The ZRP recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe (RPAZ). The MOU is aimed at paving ways of strengthening cooperation in the areas of regulation for radiation safety and security of radioactive sources.The MOU also indicated that the RPAZ would implement dedicated training and awareness programmes for ZRP officers countrywide as well as engagement on ways to enhance radiation safety and security of sources.

The RPAZ has hit the ground running following the signing of the MOU when they facilitated their first ever training workshop for police officers on radiation safety and security in Harare recently.

Police officers have been urged to be beacons of justice and morality as well as to safeguard the standards of discipline and professionalism that have become the hallmark of the ZRP.

Officiating at a graduation ceremony recently held at Morris Depot in Harare, Commissioner Training and Human Resources Development, Commissioner Grace Nomsa Ndebele urged police officers to be beacons of justice and morality.

The vision of the Commissioner General of Police, Cde, Dr Augustine Chihuri of seeing the Zimbabwe Republic Police High School having its own chapel has been realised following the ground breaking ceremony held recently where he was the guest of honour.During the same occasion, Cde, Dr Chihuri also performed the same ritual on the Advanced Level Science Laboratory. The two construction projects will run concurrently.

The vision was mooted way back in September 1997 at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of ZRP High School, where Cde, Dr Chihuri declared that the work of constructing the school will not be complete until a chapel was constructed.Back then, he had mandated the late School Board Chairperson, Dr Paul Tangi Mhova Mkondo to ensure that the construction of the chapel remained an active agenda on board meetings.

Pupils at ZRP High School in Harare have a reason to cheer. Their school celebrated 10 years of excellent existence. The High School is one institution of elementary learning that grows from strength to strength and no wonder why its pupils have permanent smiles implanted on their faces.

They had one more reason to smile for as they cheered their band extolling the virtues of a green country, on the day the school commemorated this year’s National Tree Planting Day. It was three weeks early, but by the time the national day itself arrived on December 6th, the children were well into their Christmas holiday; so they had to mark the day early before the schools closed. It was on this day that the school opened its orchard just behind the dining hall, and it was here that various fruit trees like mulberry, orange and the national tree for this year – Mukweshangoma – were planted.
