The Zimbabwe Republic Police offers a wide a range of career opportunities. These careers are put into three main categories which are :-

  • General Duty
  • Administration
  • Technical

(a) General Duty

This is the main policing front of the organisation. The responsibilities include, among other things:-

  • Suppression of all forms of civil commotion in Zimbabwe
  • Preservation of law and order
  • Prevention of crime
  • Detection of crime
  • Apprehension of offenders
  • Protection of life and property

These responsibilities are discharged with the utmost regard for Human Rights.

(b) Administration

This category provides support functions to the General Duty police officers. The following are some of the sections, which make up this category: -

  • Press and Public Relations

(c) Technical

The Technical category comprises of the following sub-groups: -

  • Draughtsmen
  • Refrigeration Technicians

(ii)Transport Technicians

  • Mechanics
  • Auto-Electricians
  • Spray painters
  • Panel Beaters

(iii) Medical

  • Doctors
  • Vet Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Radiologists
  • Environmental Health Technicians
  • Pathologists

(iv) Teachers

  • Primary and Secondary School teachers

(v) Information Communication Technology Technicians

  • Radio Technicians
  • Computer programmers
  • Software/Hardware engineers
  • Dispatchers

(vi) Clothing Factory Technicians

  • Tailors
  • Saddlers

(vii) Press and Public Relations

  • Journalists
  • Public Relations Officers
  • Photographers

(viii) Caterers

  • Cooks
  • Food Nutritionists
  • Waiters

(ix) Forensic

  • Forensic Scientists
  • Armourers [Ballistics]
