ZRP Kuyedza Club

The ZRP Kuyedza Women’s Club was established in 1958 by the wives of the Police Officers residing in camps, through-out Zimbabwe. The Police Officers wives had found themselves secluded from the mainstream society and such could not benefit nor participate in development programmes.

Kuyedza Women’s Club programmes are designed to offer sustaining projects and women empowerment, emotional, educational and recreational support to its members. The club’s network has grown enormously over the years and it has provided numerous learning and skill development opportunities to its members.

Membership of Club shall be open to wives of regular members and the following associate members:

  • Wives of Ancillary Members
  • Wives of ex-members

Currently the membership stands at eight thousand [8 000].

STRUCTURE

The Commissioner General of Police is the Honourable President with his wife as the Honourable Vice President. She is also the Chairperson of the National Executive Committee. The ZRP Kuyedza Women’s Club has a national executive committee which is elected by its members once every two years. This committee governs the operational programme of the club. There are also provincial, district and station committees.

Objectives

  1. to provide instructions in self-reliance programmes, through home-craft courses, workshops and seminars.
  2. to provide for opportunities in embarking on income generating projects for the benefit of its members.
  3. to organize fund raising activities of any form in order to promote, protect and further the interests of the Club.
  4. to establish and administer such activities, funds and reserves for the welfare of its members and dependants or necessary for the proper exercise of the functions of the Club.
  5. to promote the image of the Zimbabwe Republic Police and Create Public Support for the role played by Kuyedza Women’s Club.
  6. to provide for the provisions of the collaboration with other women’s organisations or any other body concerned with the rights, welfare and status of women.
  7. to present and make recommendations on any administrative police action that directly affect its members.
  8. to provide opportunities for sport, recreation, social interaction and refreshments for the benefit of its members.
  9. generally to do all such things as are calculated to achieve or facilitate or which are incidental or conducive to the performance of the functions.
  10. to do anything for the purpose of improving the skills, knowledge and usefulness of its members and in that connection to provide or assist other persons in providing facilities for training, education and research.

EXHIBITIONS

The Club has managed to exceptionally exhibit at international forums and walk away with gold medals under different categories. In 2013 the club won a prize for being the Best Art and Craft Demonstrator at their maiden appearance of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

ZRP Kuyedza Women’s Club also took part in the United Nations World Tourism Organisation [UNWTO] General Assembly 2013 Exhibition. The exhibitions took place at Elephant Hills Golf Course grounds, Victoria Falls from the 24th of August 2013 to the 29th of August 2013.

During the 2014 edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Exhibition which was held during the month of April in Bulawayo, the club managed to bring home two gold medals, one under the category of Best Zimbabwean Art and Craft Demonstrator and another one under the Small to Medium Enterprises Exhibit.

In October 2014, the club managed to come out first in the Hospitality and Tourism / Curios and Crafts category during the SMEs 2014 competitions held in Harare.
